The second of the Guadarrama tunnels was inaugurated in 1972. A 3,323 m tunnel. what in its moment was a great advance by enabling a road for each direction, in this case in the Coruña Direction to the north of Spain.
The AP-6 motorway has a system of three interoperable integrated tunnels under the Sierra de Guadarrama, each with an associated road between PK 49 and 60. In common situations the so-called Tunnel 3 serves vehicles that circulate in the direction of Madrid, the Tunnel 2 to those circulating in the direction of Coruña and the reversible road and Tunnel 1 can operate in Reversible way in the Madrid or Coruña direction, depending on the traffic needs.
CASTELLANA a company of the Abertis Group, have executed an upgrade of the ventilation system of Tunnel 2 of the AP-6.
The main objectives of this project is to guarantee the safety conditions in the tunnel with the update of the ventilation system for new fans state of the art and complying with the current legislation and technical normative.
The action that will be carried out in this project consists of the replacement of 12 fans that will be renewed for other equivalents in benefits with updated technology. This substitution implies the need to adapt various complementary systems, such as electrical power supply, fiber optic communications, electrical and control panels and others (benches, ventilation galleries / partitions, grilles, gates) as well as ventilation and fire plan with the integration with the traffic control system.
